That title, that author…. can you blame me for rushing right into the request button?
I thought not. ^_^
Thanks to the author, as well as Tor via NetGalley for the review copy.
Misha knows that chasing success in Hollywood can be hell.
But finally, after years of trying to make it, his big moment is here: an Oscar nomination. And the executives at the studio for his long-running streaming series know just the thing to kick his career to the next level: kill off the gay characters, “for the algorithm,” in the upcoming season finale.
Misha refuses, but he soon realizes that he’s just put a target on his back. And what’s worse, monsters from his horror movie days are stalking him and his friends through the hills above Los Angeles.
Haunted by his past, Misha must risk his entire future—before the horrors from the silver screen find a way to bury him for good.
This is the story of Misha, who is a Hollywood screenwriter. He writes horror (mostly), and his current project is a show that sounds not too much unlike The X-Files. The studio execs have ordered him to kill off his main characters in an epic example of Bury Your Gays. When Misha refuses, he suddenly finds that he is being followed by monsters from his movies, and horrors from his past.
I liked Bury Your Gays quite a lot. I thought it was better than Camp Damascus which I also loved. This appears to take place in the same universe that Camp Damascus takes place in as well, which was neat.
The twist… or… explanation of what exactly was happening was really interesting and I wouldn’t have guessed it in a million years. The same was true of Camp Damascus as well, so maybe it’s just that Check Tingle has some out-there ideas.
If you like a good horror, you may just like Bury Your Gays. It scared the willies out of me a couple of times. At least books can’t really jump scare me, or I’d hide under the blankets, lol. 4.5/5 stars!~
