Review: All of Us Murderers by KJ Charles

KJ Charles is one of my favorite authors and so I can’t help but throw myself at the request button every time I see her name on NetGalley.

So, thanks to her, and to Poisoned Pen Press for the review copy!

When Zeb Wyckham is summoned to a wealthy relative’s remote Gothic manor, he is horrified to find all the people he least wants to see in the world: his estranged brother, his sneering cousin, and his bitter ex-lover Gideon Grey. Things couldn’t possibly get worse.

Then the master of the house announces the true purpose of the gathering: he intends to leave the vast family fortune to whoever marries his young ward, setting off a violent scramble for her hand. Zeb wants no part of his greedy family—but when he tries to leave, the way is barred. The walls of Lackaday House are high, and the gates firmly locked. As the Dartmoor mists roll in, there’s no way out. And something unnatural may be watching them from the house’s shadowy depths…

Fear and paranoia ramping ever-higher, Zeb has nowhere to turn but to the man who once held his heart. As the gaslight flickers and terror takes hold, can two warring lovers reunite, uncover the murderous mysteries of Lackaday House—and live to tell the tale?

All of Us Murderers is the story of Zeb Wyckham, who is invited (repeatedly) to a relative’s manor house. Once he arrives there, he realizes that the rest of his family has been invited as well, and that the wealthy relative who invited him won’t let any of them leave. On top of that, the house is terribly haunted, and spooky things keep on happening. On top of even that, the wealthy relative’s secretary just so happens to be Zeb’s ex-lover Gideon Grey, whose life he sort of… ruined a bit… last time they saw each other. Shenanigans ensue!

This one took me a bit to get into, but once I was there I was quite engrossed. There was obviously some shady stuff happening from the very beginning, and I wanted to know what was happening, and I was surprised at how everything worked out after all.

I liked Zeb, and I found him easy to cheer for. Gideon took me a while longer, but I got there eventually. Watching the two of them basically try very hard (and fail obviously) to not be in love was adorable.

All told, this was another great story from KJ Charles. It wasn’t my favorite story of hers but it was definitely a good read. It will take a bit more than this to pry Lucien and Stephen from that top spot, but I eagerly anticipate the story that does. 4/5 stars!~
